about

Desert Jewel (M. Adler)
This is a tune I had written for the band “Mosaic” but never released. It features a set of chord changes separate from those associated with the melody for improvisation and another set for an ostinato figure under the drum solo. The title only loosely relates to the hijaz (or phrygian dominant) scale I use for my brief improvisation in the introduction. It is popular in Arabic and Hebrew music.
