Narrow Escape (M. Adler)
The initial idea for this tune came to me backstage at a jazz club in Philly called Chris’ during a break with the iconic and brilliant bassist/composer Lee Smith and his ensemble. That simple motif continued to evolve over a number of months until the “through composed” tune was finally created. I’ve always loved quirky brief song forms with challenging chord changes. The title reflects the intense nature of the tune.
