about

Ode to JF (M. Adler)
I originally composed and arranged this song for a string trio with flute while working at the Appel Farm Music and Arts Center in New Jersey. It is dedicated to the late Joe Farrell, a jazz flutist and saxophonist whose brilliant playing had a great influence on my early development and whose playing still inspires me today. I added the rhythm section parts for this recording after listening to a number of jazz recordings that incorporate string ensembles. It is a sound that I love and which I hope to develop further. It was a pleasure working with the string players and they interpreted the music perfectly!
